Supermarkets, shops & markets

Markets

There are two markets that are within a 15 - 20 minute drive that are well worth a visit. They are located in the towns of Civray and Lezay, but unfortunately they are both only open on Tuesday mornings. The market at Lezay is much bigger and has a vast array of stalls plus an indoor food only market. Although the market at Civray is smaller you do have the benefit of more shops and places to eat in the town.

Shopping in Chaunay

Chaunay is our local village and has a Co op convenience store, boulangerie, bar and chemist.

Co op - open all week apart from Tuesday and Sunday (although they do open on Sunday mornings in July and August). Note that the Co op is closed for lunch from 12.30 - 15.00 every day.

Boulangerie - open all week apart from Thursdays and Sunday afternoon.

Bar at Hotel Central - opening hours depend on how many customers they have, but Friday nights are popular with the local French and Ex pat communities.

Supermarkets

For your weekly shop you need to head off to either Sauze Vaussais or Civray which are our two local large towns. Please note that the supermarkets in these towns are not open on a Sunday. If you do need a large food shop on a Sunday then you will need to go to the Intermarche supermarkets at either Lezay or Vivonne, but these are only open until lunchtime on a Sunday.
